What is a living will?
by David M. Israel
A living will is a written document that gives authority
to another individual, or to several persons, to authorize
certain medically related events. Living wills are
more similar to a power of attorney than to a will. Living
wills may, for example, authorize the removal of life sustaining
mechanical support systems. They do not, however, give authority
to deal with other people the individual’s assets and
liabilities.
