What do executors do?
by David M. Israel
The executor’s duties involve assembling the details
of the estate, ascertaining the whereabouts of the beneficiaries
under the will, making the application for the process of
probating the will and distributing the proceeds of the estate. Also,
executors ensure that taxes are filed in a timely fashion.
The executors are expected to act responsibly while making
appropriate distributions from the estate. Executors,
however, are not personally liable for any debts of the estate
unless funds of the estate are diverted to beneficiaries prior
to paying the Estate’s debts. Trustees are expected to
avoid conflicts in dealing with the assets of the estate and
to treat the heirs in an equitable manner.
